Eric Navet and ten year old homebred stallion Dollar Du Murier HTS de Seine jumped a sensational clear round to take out the third Individual Qualifier for the Individual Jumping World Championship Final.
Second to qualify is American Peter Wylde riding Fein Cera, third Helena Lundbaeck for Sweden riding Utfors Mynta and fourth Dermott Lennon for Ireland riding Liscalgot.

2002 De 33-jarige Ier Dermott Lennon is wereldkampioen springen geworden in het Spaanse Jerez de la Frontera. Hiermee is dit de eerste gouden medaille op een wereldkampioenschap voor Ierland. Aan deze zege zit een Nederlands tintje, omdat de Ierse Lennon zijn paarden gestald heeft in het Gelderse Bemmel. Het zilver was voor de gouden medaillewinnaar op de Wereldruiterspelen in Stockholm (1990), de Fransman Eric Navet. Brons ging naar de in Maastricht woonachtige Amerikaan Peter Wylde. Vierde werd de Zweedse Helena Lundbäck.
Angelique Hoorn (Wanneperveen) wist zaterdag bij het parcours voor de beste 25 op te klimmen van een 16e naar een 25e plaats in het plaats in het individuele eindklassement, door in de laatste ronde nog zeer knap foutloos te springen. Olympisch kampioen Jeroen Dubbeldam trok zich terug voor de tweede ronde op zaterdag, nadat hij in de eerste ronde helaas te maken kreeg met 22 fouten na een weigering en twee balken. Ook andere favorieten haalden de finale van deze Wereldruiterspelen niet, waaronder Europees Kampioen Ludger Beerbaum (GER) en (oud)Wereldkampioen Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA). Beerbaum viel zaterdag van zijn paard Gladdys S. Pessoa had een dag eerder al te maken met een weigering van zijn paard Baloubet de Rouet, waardoor hij het parcours voor de beste 25 niet eens haalde.
Jeroen Dubbeldam (Ootmarsum) maakte een inschattingsfout op de moeilijke lijn sloot, driesprong, steilsprong in de eerste manche van het loodzware springparcours op zaterdag. Dubbeldam: "De Sjiem was in vorm. Het had hier gekund. Mijn paard sprong geweldig, behoorde tot de besten. Vervolgens verknoei ik het zelf.Volgend jaar is de Europese titelstrijd in Donaueschingen. Op dat kampioenschap ga ik me nu weer richten. Hoe zwaar het hier in Spanje ook was, De Sjiem kan het aan. Het paard is dertien en nog steeds van grote klasse. Het is nog lang niet voorbij."

The final round of the third qualifier produced seven clear rounds and eight horses having just one rail down. World number one rider German Ludger Berbaum riding the big chestnut mare Gladdys S (Grannus) retired from the competition after a refusal and fall at fence number four.
The French bred Dollar Du Murier HTS De Seine ridden by Eric Navet is the leading horse. Despite being still relatively “green”, he is the most consistent incurring just four time penalties over the five rounds jumped. Next placed Fein Cera ridden by Peter Wylde had just two rails down throughout the competition.
Helena Lundbaeck is the first Swedish rider to be represented in the Final for the Individual Jumping Championship and her Swedish Warmblood mare Utfors Mynta will create much interest when ridden by the three men in the final. Helena is only the second female in history to make the final after Canadian Gail Greenough won in 1986.
Three mares will be represented, another first for the jumping final. Eric Navet joins Irishman Eddie Macken and countryman Michel Robert as the only riders to be in the final twice.

A native of Medfield, Massachusetts, Peter Wylde worked his way up in the junior riders ranks.
He represented the US Equestrian Team at the 1997 and 1999 World Cup Finals in Gothenburg/Sweden.
1997 he won a Grand Prix in Florida.
1998 he had three Grand Prix wins and placed second in the Selection Trials in Lake Placid.
1999 he was Co-Champion of the US$100.000 Rolex/USET Show Jumping Championship in Gladstone, just before earning team and individual silver medals at the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg/Canada.
2000 he won the Van Vlanderen Grand Prix in Belgium.
2001 he tied for 6th place at the World Cup Final Gothenburg.
FEIN CERA, 12 year old Holsteiner mare, by Landadel and Cor de la Bryère, bred in Germany by Harm Thormählen and previously ridden by Karsten Huck. Her mother Cera has been successful with Paul Darragh, Otto Becker and HRH Princess Haya.

Born into a family of horse people, Eric started riding at age 3 and began competing at age 12. NAVET won double Gold at the first World Equestrian Games in 1990 with QUITO de BAUSSY and European Champion one year later.

1998: 2nd Team Championship at WEG Rome with ATOUT D’ISIGNY.
2002: 2nd Grand Prix Barcelona/ESP) and 5th at World Cup Bordeaux and Bercy with DOLLAR DU MURIER HAUTS DE SEINE.
